BLESS: Serving Like Jesus

Luke 22:24–27

Pastor Randy Dyck – February 2, 2026

Tagline

In God’s kingdom, greatness is revealed not through status, but through humble, self-giving service shaped by Jesus himself.

Sermon Summary

We live in a culture deeply formed by self-focus, where attention, recognition, and status quietly shape how we see ourselves and others. Pastor Randy reminded us that this mindset stands in sharp contrast to the way of Jesus. Even at the Last Supper—on the night of his betrayal—the disciples were arguing about who among them was the greatest. Into that moment, Jesus spoke a radically different vision of leadership and life: “I am among you as one who serves.” In God’s kingdom, greatness is not found in being served, but in serving.

Jesus does not merely teach this way of life—he embodies it. Throughout Luke’s Gospel, we see Jesus consistently moving toward the marginalized, the overlooked, and the broken. His service is marked by humility, self-giving love, and deep joy. Ultimately, his greatest act of service was laying down his life as a ransom for many. Serving, then, is not simply a moral act or a church program; it is a gospel reality. As followers of Jesus, we are invited to share in his way of life—serving those around us not for recognition, but out of love, empowered by the Spirit, and shaped by the joy of God’s kingdom.
