Sunday Services

"Let us consider one another
in order to stir up love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together..."
Hebrews 10:24-25, NKJV

Courtenay Fellowship Baptist offers two services on Sunday mornings and one service in the evening. This allows for you to come and worship in a familiar way or to try another form of worship. Communion is served on the last Sunday of every month.

9:15 am Contemporary Worship Service

Offers a form of praise and worship considered to be more modern or contemporary. Guitars, drums and piano usually accompany singers who lead the congregation in worship that uplifts the soul and prepares the heart to hear God's message. This service appeals to young families because Nursery Care for infants and Junior Church for toddlers are offered at this time.

11:00 am Traditional Worship Service

Offers a more traditional service format where hymns are sung accompanied by an organ and piano. Time is spent praying for needs in the congregation and tends to be a more subdued service. Sunday School for Children, Teens and Adults are offered at this time.

6:30 pm Evening Fellowship & Prayer

This is an informal, casual service which provides an opportunity for continued teaching and fellowship. On occasion there will be special events or speakers at this service ~ check weekly bulletin for details.

For Children

Then he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all - he is the greatest."
Luke 9:48, NIV

We believe that children are precious in God’s eyes and that we must do all we can to bring joy and direction to their lives. We are living in a time when our children are faced with many difficult choices. It is our desire to help children build a solid foundation to life through loving support and spiritual guidance. In order to provide assurance that volunteers working with our children adhere to a high standard of care, we ask that everyone read our Plan to Protect (PDF or Word) and complete a Volunteer Information Form for Adults (PDF or Word) or one for Youth (PDF or Word).

Nursery Care

During the 9:15 morning service, we offer nursery care for infants and toddlers up to age two.  Our nursery is fully supervised and contains many wonderful toys and books.  We also feature a crib room where children can nap or mothers can nurse their babies.

Junior Church

During the 9:15 morning service children ages 3 to 8 are able to attend Junior church.  The children are dismissed to Junior church before the sermon.  In Junior church, children listen to Bible stories and have the opportunity to participate in a variety of play zones.

Children's Sunday School

Sunday School at Courtenay Fellowship Baptist seeks to help children grow in their faith by teaching the truth of God in scripture. The Word is presented in a way that strives to build understanding and a desire to put it in action. Children in Kindergarten and up to Grade 12 are able to attend Sunday school at 11:00 am.

DVBS - Daily Vacation Bible School

Each year during the summer, we take a week to put on a children's summer program for children age four to grade six.  We have skits, games, crafts, puppets, Bible stories and a whole lot more.  We usually have over 100 children each day.  This is the highlight of our summer and could be a highlight of your child's summer as well. Please contact the Church Office for details.

For 2011 we present:

sonsurf

Each day kids will learn from various people in the Bible what it means to choose Jesus as their Savior. And they will have a blast playing fun games, making cool crafts and enjoying snacks. Hope to see you there!

DVBS was held during the week of July 4-8, 2011

For Teens

"for the Lord will be your confidence and
will keep your foot from being caught."
Proverbs 3:26, ESV

Teen Sunday School

Sunday School at Courtenay Fellowship Baptist seeks to help teens grow in their faith by teaching the truth of God in scripture. The Word is presented in a way that strives to build understanding and a desire to put it in action. Teens from Grade 8-12 are able to attend Sunday school at 11:00 am.

We really believe that God can make a difference in the life of teens. Therefore our teen ministries desire to expose teens to God's character so they will be fulfilled in Him and change their world for His glory. We seek to accomplish this through friendships, having fun together and helping them to see how God does relate to our lives. Both junior and senior high ministries meet weekly with other regular monthly activities.

Junior Youth (grade 6-8) Mondays at 7:00 pm

Senior Youth (grade 9-12) Tuesdays at 7:00 pm

For Adults

"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ , if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose"
Philippians 2:1-2, NIV

We all need Sunday worship services in order to gather as a large group and celebrate God, but we also understand that significant spiritual growth occurs when we connect with others in smaller groups. At Courtenay Baptist, we have many programs for adults which provide an opportunity to develop friendships and strengthen your faith in God.

Adult Sunday School

We offer Sunday School Classes for adults during both of our Sunday morning services.  Adult classes provide an opportunity to study the Bible and apply it to everyday life.  Adult classes encourage participatory learning and can be a great opportunity to ask questions and have discussions.

@ 11:00 am in Lower Fellowship Room

Please check the Church Bulletin for class topics

Alpha Groups

Help to answer the question "Is there more to life than this?" The Alpha course is used by churches all over the world to introduce people to the Christian Faith.  The Alpha Course runs as a small group in a home setting where people come together, enjoy a meal, watch one of the video sessions and then spend some time discussing the topic.  Alpha is excellent for people who want to explore the Christian faith, or develop a firm foundation in the faith.

Small Group Bible Studies

Small Groups are a regular opportunity for us to gather, as a church family, for fellowship, prayer, worship and to study God's Word together.  By connecting to a small group, you will be able to develop deeper friendships and find a more personal and interactive approach to being part of God's family. Small groups provide a wonderful way to care for one another.

If you are interested in small groups, contact the Church Office.

Adult Fellowship

We believe that friendship is an important ingredient in life, and that personal interaction is a wonderful opportunity to find encouragement.  Therefore we at Courtenay Baptist make an effort to plan events where people can come together and form lasting friendships.

Between Services

Everyone is invited to join us for coffee downstairs in the gym.  Come early for the 11 am service or linger a while after the 9:15 am service.

Fellowship Nights (4F)

Our Fellowship Committee (4F's) plan many fun-filled evenings which provide opportunities for adults in the congregation to get out and get to know one another in a relaxed environment. In the past we have had bowling tournaments, curling events and even a Hawaiian night! Who knows what they will think up next!

For Women

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Proverbs 31:30, NIV

Women's Fellowship

Another wonderful opportunity for women to get together and enjoy an evening of fellowship. There is usually a theme to the evening with a guest speaker or activity and lots of great food. We encourage everyone to attend and bring a friend, you'll never be disappointed.

If you want to know about future events, please click Here.

In addition to these events, the women of our church get together to celebrate marriages, birth of babies, even go away for a weekend retreat! Whatever you are looking for to find friendship and build your faith, we can help you.

Women's Bible Studies

One is held every Tuesday at 10:00 am in the Lower Fellowship Hall. See Church Bulletin for scripture being studied.

On the last Saturday of every month, September to June, a breakfast Bible Study is held at the church at 9:00 am. Everyone brings food to share, spends time in fellowship with one another then a study of scripture is presented and discussed among the women. It is a very relaxed atmosphere with little preparation required so anyone can attend anytime!

Women's Retreats

There are many opportunities to get away and enjoy the fellowship of other women as they seek to deepen their faith in the Lord. We usually host an annual local retreat and many women attend retreats at venues around Vancouver Island throughout the year. Refer to the Women's Fellowship Bulletin Board for current events. Also, check out our Links to other churches and camps which offer events for women.

Baptist Boutique

A Free Store is operated out of our church which provides clothing for infants to adults. All clothing is provided by donation and requires volunteers to sort through before they can be put in the store. It also depends on volunteers to open so days of operation are determined by the number of volunteers we have. This store not only helps people in need of clothing it provides a valuable outreach into our community.

For Men

"From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us." Acts 17:26-27, NIV

Men's Breakfast

Is an opportunity for men in our church family to meet and develop friendships with one another, to encourage each other in their spiritual walk. Breakfast is served on the second Saturday of every month at 8:00 am in the Lower Fellowship Hall.

Men's Bible Study

For men to study scripture in an environment which allows discussion of issues relevant to them and not influenced by any female presence! Confidentiality is respected and those who attend have found it to be very rewarding for their spiritual growth. Hosted by George Henly - contact him or the Church Office for more details.

For Seniors

"To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers - not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you,
but being examples to the flock."
1Peter 5:1-3

New Horizons Luncheons

New Horizons is our ministry dedicated to seniors (55+).  We offer luncheons on selected Mondays right here at the church.  This is an excellent time to enjoy one another's company, have a great meal and be encouraged by a guest speaker or video presentation.  Everyone is welcome.
